21st September

First we where in the music block with Mr Trustcott, here we looked at some pictures and we had to describe them and sell them to the class, this exercise was useful because when we go to Leeds Art Gallery on Tuesday we need to know about the different arts. We then travelled to Mr Romers room to make a spider diagram about the Questions we are going to ask the person or persons at the Art Gallery. We thought of many ideas including: Audience type and age, Changes they have made over the years, Merchandise ect.
We then went onto Mrs Woffindens room and we discussed Narration:
Purpose of Narration
-Sets the scene
-introduces characters
-to help the audience what is happening.
- Give information
-Creates atmosphere
-Engage the audience and create tension

Examples of Narration
 -David Attenbrough
-Pete versus Life ( channel 4)
-Documentary's ( March of the penguins)
- Dr Zues
-Films ( Stardust)

We then looked at a clip of David Attenbrough in action.
Lyre Bird-David Attenbrough-BBC Wildlife
-David uses Rhetorical questions to describe the world
-Draws the audience in.
-Comparisons
-Present tense
-Metaphors
-Relaxed voice
-Timing of description
-Builds tension in his voice.
David Attenbrough is a great example for a Narrator because he uses his voice so well, he is relaxed and his voice is soothing giving that calm state of mind and his use of rhetorical questions is really good as an intro to the show.
We then watched a completely different type of narrative, Come Dine With Me.
This was so much different because the narrator uses comedy to draw the audience in, i think this is aimed at a younger generation than David Attenbroughs audience.
We then had 3 different audiences and we had to act out a commercial. We kept the same act but the Narrator changed the tone and style of his voice, this went down really well.

Creative and Media 14th September GWN

Today we focused on succeeding these objectives:
-Watching some example interviews
-Make a check list for a good interview
-Watch and evaluate our own clips
-Set targets and rehearse the new interviews with improvements
-Record new and improved interviews

So first we watched a interview on you-tube with Jonathan Ross interviewing Lady Gaga. We jotted down some notes about the interview:
-He introduced the guest well and showed respect with a kiss on the cheek and a hug.
-Because Lady Gaga is a very strange person and not very open, Jonathan Ross had to find away to relate to her and he does this by being honest.
-He also said what the audience where thinking, this makes him a great presenter.
-To make it a good interview you must be well informed about the person you are interviewing.
- Jonathan Ross uses humour to open the person up this is a good point to add to the check list.

We then looked at another interview with Lady Gaga, this time it was on location after a awards ceremony:
-The presenter used active listening and  eye contact so that Lady Gaga would feel more involved and open up more.
- Compliments are good to use in a interview because they make the person feel appreciated.
-Its always good to know when to finish the interview because the person could get very bored with the questions.

We then made a check list for a good interview. These are the main points i put in my table:
-Introduce the guest
-Relate to the guest
-Be honest
-Compliments-Well informed
-Balance of speech
-Humour
-Good finishing
-Correct Grammar

We then got some targets to improve our clips of our interviews:
-Rehearse more to make the interview flow.
-Better camera skills
-Use open questions
-Extend answers and questions.

First day at Temple Moor High school

10th of September
Today was our first day at Temple Moor, at first i was nervous but when i got there it was fine. First We went and met Mrs Pawanski who is a media teacher there, we had a tour around the school and she got to know us.
We then found out what media is and we tried to list as many mediums as we could. We then went to the IT suite and met Mr Gardner who helped us to learn skills using photo shop. We then came back to school after a good 2 lessons at Temple Moor.

First day Of Creative and media Diploma

8th of September
Today we had our first day with Mrs Woffinden focusing on Interviewing.  So first we had to get into pairs and ask each other about our creative art experiences. Then we came together and discussed how easy or hard it was to: Question the partner, Listen to the partner, speaking and recording the information.
So first we discussed Questioning the partner: Well it was easy because i new my partner well and i really got involved with the story's she was telling me, this pushed me to ask deeper questions. But it was hard because you couldn't fill the time and it was hard to get your partner to open up to you.
Then we discussed listening to your partner: It would make it easy if your partner was interesting  because you could concentrate on listening to them and felt engaged in the conversation. But you could make them open up by Active listening which means you would act to be interested even if it wasn't. This would make your partner feel confident and open up to you.
After that we discussed speaking: When you speak you don't have to impress your partner because this could lead to confusion, so just be yourself. And don't feel like you are being judged by your partner because this could make you feel under pressure.
Finally we discussed recording the information: When recording its helpful if you listen for the most important facts so you don't have to write so much and don't miss any important facts. Also using a Dictaphone or a camera to record and write later to get every fact. And its OK to ask someone to repeat the answer or question.
After all of this we then went  to practice our on site interviews, then we performed the interviews inside pretending we were still on site. after our performance we got some constructive criticism from the class: We may need to learn it a bit better and don't look so nervous, so just relax.
After Mrs Woffinden we moved on into Mr Romers room, here we researched many media venues in Leeds online, we then recorded the information into a data base as a class. We then made these blogs to record everything we do in these diploma classes.
